I was raised a Lutheran. After completing Lutheran catechism, went on to become a Baptist. After Baptist Bible colleges and seminaries, was a Baptist pastor. Eventually, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues! I was water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ with the washing away of sin. So, I am no longer a Baptist. I am now a Christian!
Who is Jesus? Most respond by saying He is the ‘Son of God’, which is true. But, what else is Jesus?
Jesus is God.
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." Matthew 1:23
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1
“And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.” John 20:28
“God was manifest in the flesh, ... ." 1 Timothy 3:16
Plus: 1 John 5:20; Phil. 2:7-8; 1 Tim.1:16-17; John 5:18; John 14:20; Hebrews 1:8-9; Col. 2:8-9; Tit. 2:13
One must believe that Jesus is God! The phrase ‘Son of God’ refers to Jesus’ humanity. God came to earth born with an actual human body.
There are basically 3 plans of salvation in the United States:
Roman Catholics – a system of works based on the 7 sacraments and man’s tradition.
Protestants - pray the sinner’s prayer, and you go to heaven. Never does the Bible give an example of praying a sinner’s pray for salvation!
Christians – follow Jesus’ Words & example
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:” Matthew 3:16
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:5-6
Births
1. Born of water - Water baptism
2. Born of the Spirit – Holy Spirit baptism
3. Born of the flesh – Your physical birth
What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
The Baptism of the Holy Ghost is God entering into a person.
Believers have the Holy Ghost which is Jesus' Spirit in them! Or, they are not believers!
“… he dwelleth with you, and … shall be in youI am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” John 14:15-20
If you don't have the Holy Spirit/Ghost, you are not of God's. You are not going to heaven!
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [10] And ifChrist be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. [11] But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:9-11
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Corinthians 13:5
The Holy Ghost which is Jesus' Spirit is in Christians:
Jesus John 14:20; Ro.8:10; 2 Cor.13:5; Ga.2:20 ,4:19; Eph 1:23,3:17; Col.1:27, 3:11; 2 John 1:9
Holy Ghost John 14:17; Acts 19:2; Romans 8:8-9; 1 Corinthians 3:16,6:19; 1 Peter 1:11
Plus: 2 Corinthians 6:16; 2 John 1:9; Ephesians 3:19, 4:6; 1 John 4:2
Are you a Believer?
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;” Mark 16:15-17
You have just read where the Bible says a believer shall speak in tongues. Why don’t you speak in
Tongues? Tongues is the evidence a believer is really a believer/Christian!
What does Christ mean? What is a Christian?
‘Christ’ is Greek ; ‘Messiah’ is Hebrew ; ‘Anointed’ is English ; ‘Christ’ and ‘Messiah’ mean ‘Anointed’
So, a Christian is someone who has been anointed like Jesus the Christ. How was Jesus anointed?
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38
What is Water Baptism?
John the Baptist’s water baptism
“And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;” Luke 3:3
What Jesus said about water baptism
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Mark 16:16
What Peter said about water baptism
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38
What Paul said and did with water baptism
“When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 19:5
“And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” Acts 22:16
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:” Romans 6:4-5
What Peter added to the teaching on water baptism
“Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:” 1 Peter 3:20-21
Notice: This verse reads ‘baptism doth also now save us’. In the New Testament water baptism is now a requirement for salvation.
Holy Spirit cleanses of sin, water cleanses of sin, and Jesus’ blood cleanses of sin
“And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” 1 John 5:8
Water BaptismHoly Spirit Baptism
“Except a man be born of water - and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” John 3:5
“by the washing of regeneration, - and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” Titus 3:5
“baptized..you.. for the remission of sins,-and ye shall receive... Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38
“our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:22
“...ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God" 1 Corinthians 6:11
One must be water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the washing away of sin, for His name is the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. There is only one God. What is your God's name? God’s name is Jesus!
You may think - Well, I have been water baptized in the titles, Father, Son and Holy Ghost that should be good enough, but what if it isn't good enough? Shouldn't Jesus state to you at judgment, 'You had my Word; you chose not to be obedient'. I have been water baptized six times. I am going to heaven! John the Baptist's disciples were water baptized twice. Why? Their first water baptism wasn't in Jesus' name! Is your water baptism in Jesus' name?
Some argue:
They state - 'All you need to do is confess Jesus is Lord.' But they ignore or don't know about all the other verses earlier in Romans.
“That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. 10 For with the heart man believes to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
All verses must fit together to have a Biblical plan of salvation!
Paul uses the word 'if' to show if some are not water baptized they are not going to be resurrected.
Paul uses the word 'if' to show if some are not Holy Spirit baptized they are not going to heaven!
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [10] And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. [11] But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:9-11Repent, Be water baptized in Jesus' name for the washing away of sin, Be Holy Ghost baptized with the evidence of speaking in tongues, Then walk in the Holy Ghost/Spirit! “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:17
Do you pray in the name of Jesus?
Do you cast out demons in the name of Jesus?
Do you lay hands on the sick in the name of Jesus?
Do you praise the name of Jesus?
Do you etc., etc.
Then you should be water baptized in the precious name of Jesus Christ!
